Team Serbia began their conquest towards a new European crown in front of the Belgrade home crowd. The squad of coach Uroš Stevanović beat the Netherlands after penalties (18:16).

The tense matchup featured excellent performances by Dušan Mandić with 6 goals as well as Sebastian Hessels for the guests playing in white caps.
The Netherlands spent the first half in the lead, while Serbia transferred the pressure to the opposing side towards the end of 3/4.
The most contested moment by the water polo fans is the VAR decision annulling a goal for the Netherlands (14:13) due to the clock running out. Otherwise, this would have gotten them a victory.
As the penalties went by both sides showed their mastery. However, Glušac was able to defend Serbia’s goal for the advantage. Miloš Ćuk brought Serbia the winning goal and two points to the squad.
The host nation now awaits Spain on Monday. The clash of the titans.
