After weeks of rumors, it seems that they the next home for Gal Mekel is Serbia. The 27 year-old point guard from Israel is about to sign his contract with BC Red Star, as the Belgrade red and whites continue strengthening all of their positions.

Mekel is 1,91m (6’3) tall point guard, who has so far played in Wichita State during two seasons, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Gilboa, the Italian Benetton, and Maccabi Haifa, where he earned his second Israeli Super League MVP title. He spent the 2013-14 season in the NBA, playing for the Dallas Mavericks, before being traded off to the Texas Legends and the New Orleans Pelicans.
He had an average of 2,3 points in the NBA, while his performance improved in the Euroleague, as he played for the Nizhny Novgorod, during the year 2015. He was scoring an average of 11,7 points in 20,7 minutes per game, 2,3 rebounds, and 4,7 assists.
This transfer leaves room for possibly one more signing, considering that the transfer window is nearly ending, while the club’s budget is undoubtedly wearing thin.
