Another Dolphin turns 30. Andrija Prlainović was born in the coastal town of Herceg Novi. Having loved sports since childhood, Prlainović ended up in water polo, as so many others living by the sea.
Nevertheless, he turned out very differently. Our favorite Eleven is the owner of some 40 team medals, and individual awards. The one shining the brightest is undoubtedly the Olympic gold.
He started off his successful career in Jadran, located in his hometown, winning the National Championship and the National Cup of then Serbia and Montenegro (2004, 2005, 2006).
Continuing the journey in Partizan, he won 5 National titles of Serbia, and two more with Crvena zvezda, followed by a prosperous season in the Italian Pro Recco.
During the past decade, he has won 3 Euroleagues and 2 European Supercups.
He is currently playing in Hungary, for Szolnok, alongside Živko Gocić, Stefan Mitrović and Milan Aleksić.
Despite his enormous success in clubs, Prlainović is most well known for his successes in the Serbian National Team. After picking Serbia over Montenegro in the divide that followed the dissolution of the State Union, he won a total of 22 medals for the National Team.
Including: 4 European gold medals, 2 World Championships, 8 World Leagues, 2 Olympic Bronze medals and finally, the Olympic Gold medal of 2016 in Rio.
Despite his success, he remains one of the more quiet, levelheaded players, keeping his cool and staying out of the gossip columns. When he is out of the pool, he dedicates his time to family and friends.
As husband and father, he truly is an example of a well rounded individual, that has managed to exceed in just about everything he has done. But knowing him, there is always place for more.
Srećan rođendan, Andrija! 🙂
