The 25 years of Bari

Datum 29. maj 1991. godine vam verovatno neće previše značiti, osim ako niste ljubitelj fudbala, posebno na Balkanu. Na današnji dan pre 25 godina Crvena zvezda je dosegla trofej o kojem svi evropski klubovi sanjaju – Ligu šampiona. Tadašnji šampionski Kup, promenio je ime ali ne i značaj karakterističnog ušatog trofeja, za kojim se čezne.

May 29th of 1991. won’t mean much to you, unless you are a sports fanatic, particularly from the Balkans. On this day, 25 years ago Belgrade’s Crvena zvezda (Red Star) has reached the trophy every European team dreams of, the Champions League. The Cup, as it was referred to back then, has changed its name, but not its importance.

Jose Mourinho has officially been confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United. After a very unglamorous goodbye to Louis Van Gaal, the controversial Portuguese will take over United’s bench. 

The details of the contract are yet to be known, while the fans reactions are divided.

Louis Van Gaal is no longer the manager of Manchester United. After a regrettable season, many misjudgements and a failed transfer list, the controversial Dutchman will not form part of the Red Devils in seasons to come.

This news comes as a relief to millions of fans worldwide, who have been campaigning against Van Gaal on social media for months. He will most likely be replaced by another controversial coach, also fired from his previous club. – Jose Mourinho.

Ognjen Ožegović’s overhead chosen as goal of the season

Despite not playing in the Serbian JSL anymore, the amazing overhead kick by Ognjen Ožegović during his time in Vojvodina is very well remembered. His goal versus Javor was chosen today as the best of the season 2015/2016.

Iako više ne igra u Jelen superligi, akrobacije Ognjena Ožegovića se itekako pamte. Mladi Ožegović je u jesenjem toku prvenstva postigao spektakularan gol protiv ivanjičkog Javora. U maniru Runija, Mesija i Ronaldinja, Ožegović je “makazicama” poentirao za pobedu tadašnjeg kluba Vojvodine. Ovaj gol je danas izabran za najlepši u prvenstvu, apsolutnom većinom.

В конце,победа ЦСКА!

The Russian team was finally able to overcome their bad luck in the finals, thanks to a  101:96 win over Fenerbahce. Their first Euroleague since the year 2008. and seventh in the club’s history. Coach Itoudis who became the owner of his first Euroleague trophy, was thrown in the air by the ecstatic players and staff, as they were all able to take a sigh of relief.

Barcelona proclaimed La Liga champions

FC Barcelona han conseguido un nuevo título de La Liga. Los jugadores blaugrana se han convertido en campeones por la 24. vez en su historia. Con esto se finaliza una racha excelente del Barça en la cual habían pasado 27 semanas como líderes y el total de 91 puntos.  Una liga que sabe a mucho.

FC Barcelona wins their 24th Spanish Championship title, by beating Granada on an away match with a hat trick, courtesy of Luis Suárez and incredible moves of team captain Andrés Iniesta. A title after 27 weeks in the lead and a total of 91 points.

Red Star draws against Olympiakos

U očekivano dobroj atmosferi, odigrana je prijateljska utakmica dva bratska kluba, Crvene zvezde i Olimpijakosa. Uprkos činjenici da je zbog nekoliko promena datuma Marakana dočekala oko dvadesetak hiljada ljudi, navijači ali i visok tempo utakmice su večerašnji susret održali na zavidnom nivou.

In a friendly match played earlier tonight Belgrade’s Red Star played a draw against their Greek brethren by 2:2. The stadium was far from packed, due to various changes in dates of this fixture, but the fans that did make it, also made sure the atmosphere was on high levels. The match itself showed goals by Petar Orlandić and Aleksandar Katai for Zvezda, with Hernani and Kasami who brought equalisers for Oly.

Red Star defends the Adriatic title

Crvena zvezda Telekom, odbranila je titulu šampiona regionalne ABA lige. Rezultatom 61:49, ukupno 3:0 u seriji, savladana je perspektivna Mega. Na gostovanju u Sremskoj Mitrovici, ekipa Dejana Radonjića istakla se svojim iskustvom i manjim brojem grešaka na terenu.

Red Star keeps their ABA League trophy by beating an undoubtedly enthusiastic opponent, Mega Leks of Sremska Mitrovica. On their third playoff match, this time away from the home court of the Pionir Hall, the Red and Whites have beat the brightly coloured Mega, by  61:49, for a total of 3:0 in the series. The trophy was lifted by Zvezda’s two captains, Branko Lazić and Luka Mitrović who was away most of the season, due to a knee injury.

Serbia not going to the Eurobasket?

Due to a conflict between FIBA and the Euroleague, a list National teams that are possible to miss the next Eurobasket was issued. Among those names is Serbia. On the other hand, Slovenia already has the official exclusion confirmation, while the others will have to wait for at least another day. In case of actual exclusion, the decision of the International Basketball Federation may have further repercussions, in these teams participation on the upcoming Olympics.

On the list of potential non participants are also: Lithuania, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Spain, Russia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Montenegro, Poland and Turkey.

Nakon opsežnih diskusija na relaciji Evropske kuće košarke, Evrolige i matičnih saveza, sastavljena je lista reprezentacija koje najverovatnije neće učestvovati na sledećem Evrobasketu. Od ukupno četrnaest imena, na spisku se našla i Srbija. Sloveniji je već potvrđeno isključenje, dok se oglašavanje zvaničnika u vezi sa ostalim reprezentacijama očekuje sutra.

Moguće je da se ovakav tretman reprezentacija odrazi i na njihovo učešće na predstojećim Olimpijskim igrama u Riju. Treba napomenuti da u ovom momentu ostaje samo čekanje na oglašavanje zvaničnika.

Zvezda misses key shot – CSKA leads 2:0

Košarkaši Crvene zvezde Telekom, nisu uspeli da dođu do izjednačujućeg rezultata u duelu sa CSKA. Uprkos prednosti i kvalitetnoj igri, crveno-beli su u poslednjih 90 sekundi izgubili sa 76:77. Moskovljani sada vode sa 2:0, pred ključni susret u Beogradu.

Red Star loses a genuine chance for an equaliser. In a tense match, the final score was decided only in the last 90 seconds, as CSKA Moscow wins by only a point (77:76), before a very heated away game in Belgrade on Monday.
